What is Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders, 2 involving different organs and tissues, lifelong and is characterized by an increase in glucose levels in the blood: hyperglycemia.

– Need to urinate frequently

– Very hungry

– Lack of energy

– Very thirsty

How has it affected us to this day?

  • – 90% of people with diabetes have type 2 disease.
  • 80% of lower limb amputations were performed in people with diabetes.
  • 13 out of 100 deaths in Mexico are caused by diabetes.
  • The age group with more deaths from diabetes is between 40 and 55 years.
  • Currently, 1 in every three deaths in Mexico reported diabetes as a secondary cause.
  • Diabetes is one of the few diseases that affect more women than men. On average, men with diabetes die at a younger age than women (67 versus 70 years, respectively).

Don´t worry, you can prevent it, or control it, through:

  • A well balanced diet
  • Exercise program
  • Weight control. Avoid being overweight or obese
  • Taking an annual glucose testing
