10 Tips for eating right at home and while on-the-go:

1) Keep healthy snacks on hand – i.e., almonds, hummus, fruits, fat-free lattes.

2) Try to eat something before you leave the house. Even if you plan to go out for lunch or dinner, avoid leaving home on an empty stomach or you will end up ordering the heavier, higher-carb options on the menu.

3) Avoid consuming foods that are kept at room temperature for a long time, as they are more likely to cause food poisoning.

4) Choose water over soda. Want to make it interesting? Bring water flavoring packets and preferably stick to bottled water.

5) Keep comfort food at a minimum. “Focus on items that are grilled, steamed, broiled or baked instead of fried or sautéed.”

6) Season your food with less salt.

7) If your body won’t allow you to skip dessert, opt for dark chocolates or recipes low in sugar, with cocoa and minimal oil.

8) Plan a well-balanced meal for dinner to avoid late night hunger attacks / snacking.

9) When you first wake up, have a cup of green tea or cinnamon and ginger tea to jumpstart your metabolism.
