The WHO, World Health Organization, named October as the month to raise awareness of this disease and how to prevent and/or control it. Today we would like to share a few tips for prevention and early detection of this disease.
- Weight control through healthy eating.
- It is important to have a good diet based on fruits, vegetables and your choice of protein, whether it be meat and / or fish. Note: Weight loss supplements or extreme diet regimes are not considered part of a well balanced diet.
- Regular exercise programs.
- No need to do extreme workouts. Simply try to incorporate 15-20 minutes of daily exercise like walking, swimming or bike riding. Another option is to schedule an hour of exercise three times a week. This will create a good balance without the stress of having to schedule a daily workout.
- Limit alcohol consumption.
- If possible, it is best to avoid or limit its consumption all together.
- Schedule screening tests according to your age and known risk factors.
- Depending on your age, it is important to schedule a breast ultrasound every 6-8 months, or a mammogram every year. Please note, regardless of your age, it is advisable to perform a breast self-exam at home every month.
- Consult your doctor if you have family history of breast cancer.
